Wow, The Simpsons did a parody of Noah Kalina’s Everyday video.
Noah, you just graduated summa cum laude from Pop Culture University.
So cool.
Verizon sells a "Don’t tase me, bro" ringback tone - Engadget Mobile
We’re not exactly certain how a clip of Andrew Meyer politely asking the University of Florida cops to refrain from Tasing him ended up on Verzion’s ringback tone web shop, but you know a million phone lines just got that much more annoying.
Don’t tread on me.
A few years ago, a company thought they’d hit upon an ingenious enhancement for modern cemeteries — namely, a tombstone with an embedded video screen. The idea was that visitors to your grave-site could watch a slideshow of images, all while listening to accompanying audio (accessible via a handy headphone jack) — like a giant, morbid iPod. You would think an idea as modern and tasteful as this one would have caught on, but apparently after years of work, maker Vidstone LLC is still not seeing the numbers. "I haven’t sold any," said Doug Ellis of Riverview Monuments in Wisconsin — a sentiment not uncommon amongst dealers. Cheri Lucking, Vidstone’s national sales director says, "We don’t release our sales figures," adding, "It is not a huge number at the moment."
For the record, I don’t want one of these. It would be incredibly creepy.

MOSCOW, Dec. 10 — A day after President Vladimir V. Putin endorsed a loyal protégé, Dmitri A. Medvedev, as his successor, Mr. Medvedev went before the nation today and declared that he in turn would name Mr. Putin as his prime minister.
Not exactly unexpected. Too bad for Garry.
John Hawks writes "A new genomics study in PNAS shows that humans have been evolving new adaptive genes during the past 10,000 years much faster than ever before. The study says that evolution has sped up because of population growth, making people adapt faster to new diseases, new diets, and social changes like cities. Oh, and I’m the lead author. I’ve been reading Slashdot for a long time, and let me just say that our study doesn’t necessarily apply to trolls."
Interesting. Also interesting that he’s preempting the trolls on the comments. Clever. Will it work? Doubtful.
We got a tip that something cool is about to hit. I keep saying that the “no electronic devices on airplanes” thing is crap, and American Airlines, it seems, is seeing my point of view. Starting next year, transcontinental 767-200s will be equipped with Wi-Fi and broadband access via Aircell, who has a similar deal in place with Virgin Airlines. The technology has been around for awhile, and I must say “It’s about damned time.”
It’s a pilot program for now (heh), but if successful, it could ripple through to all of American’s planes. What’s great is AA is offering the service for free. In a world where airlines must charge for a second package of pretzels, they’re giving you Wi-Fi for free. Thank heavens, and thanks American.
More as we hear more.
